The Giver

How He Coped

Jonas copes with these conflicts by leaving his community at night, and riding away on his dad's bike to find a land where there is no sameness. The Giver lately has been giving him memories that will make him stronger for his journey. Their plan is to gradually release memories to begin to break the sameness. Jonas steals food from other houses before he leaves. He also saves Gabriel by taking him with him. He ends up riding, and avoiding search planes, through many communities until he is surrounded by wilderness. Eventually he gets to a snow hill where the story ends.
